und noch einmal in Liebe entbrenne!

Das Vöglein, wenn eines Tages

es dem Käfig entflieht,

wird nie wieder tändelnd

den Jäger umflattern.

Ich, der ich mit knapper Not

einer Liebesfalle entrann,

muss, ach, bei dem Gedanken

an neue Fesseln erschaudern.

Rezitativ

Podestà

Geschwind, Nardo, Serpetta, bewegt euch!

Ich will, dass alles bereit ist,

wenn die Brautleute kommen,

prächtig, glanzvoll und geziemend.

Serpetta

Ich würde lieber hier bei Sandrina bleiben.

Nardo

Komm, Serpetta, beeile dich,

deinem Herrn zu gehorchen.

Serpetta

Geh doch und brich dir den Hals! Da geht’s lang.

(Nardo geht ab, Serpetta bleibt im Hintergrund)

Podestà

Da wir nun endlich allein sind, wollen wir

ein wenig über uns sprechen. Liebe Sandrina,

ich erkläre mich dir in wenigen Worten:

ich bin entflammt, ich sterbe für dich: so edles Wesen,

solcher Zauber hat mich auf der Stelle überwältigt.

Sandrina

Ah, I try in vain . . .

Ramiro

In vain I pretend to be at ease . . .

Podestà

The Podestà, Sandrina, Serpetta, Nardo.

Recitative

Quickly, Nardo, Serpetta, come now!

(Exit Nardo; Serpetta remains to one side.)

Now that we are alone for once,

Let’s talk a little about ourselves. Dear Sandrina,

I’ll tell you in two words:

Ah che procuro invano...

Ramiro

Invan mostro scioltezza...

Podestà

Amico, ho gran timore,

che sia del vostro mal cagione amore.

che se amor vi ferì,vi sani amore.

Ramiro

Mi guardi il ciel, che appena

dalle catene sciolto, cercar voglia

nuovi ceppi per me; non fia mai vero,

che mi venga in pensiero idea sì sciolta

e m’accenda d’amore un’altra volta.

Se l’augellin se n’ fugge

dalla prigione un giorno,

al cacciatore intorno

non più scherzando va.

Libero uscito appena

da un amoroso impaccio,

l’idea d’un altro laccio

Il Podestà, Sandrina, Serpetta e Nardo.

Recitativo

Podestà

Presto, Nardo, Serpetta andate, andate

ché all’arrivo de’ sposi

vo’ che tutto sia pronto,

con pompa, splendidezza e proprietà.

Podestà

Vo’ restar con Sandrina in libertà.

Podestà

Via Serpetta, il padrone

ad ubbidir si vada.

Podestà

Vanne, rompiti il collo, ecco la strada.

(Nardo parte e Serpetta resta in disparte)

Podestà

Siam pur soli una volta,

veniamo un poco a noi: cara Sandrina

mi spiego in due parole:

ardo, moro per te, quel brio, quel vezzo

subito mi colpì.

Sandrina

Ah ! je m’efforce en vain…

Ramiro

En vain je feins de me montrer à l’aise…

Le Podestat

Mon ami, je crains fort

Que de tels maux l’amour ne soit la cause.

Écoutez mon conseil :

Prenez une autre belle,

Offrez-lui votre cœur ;

Si l’amour vous blessa, il saura vous guérir.

Ramiro

Me préserve le ciel qu’à peine

Délivré de mes fers, je m’aille mettre en quête

D’une nouvelle chaîne ; il ne se pourra point

Qu’une aussi folle idée me traverse l’esprit

Et des feux de l’amour que je m’embrase encore !

Si l’oiselet un jour

De sa prison s’enfuit,

Il n’ira plus, folâtre,

Voltiger autour du chasseur.

À peine délivré

D’une amoureuse chaîne,

À l’idée d’autres fers

Ah ! je frémis d’effroi.

Vite, Nardo, Serpetta, allons, allons !

Pour l’arrivée de nos époux

Je veux que tout soit prêt,

Avec pompe, splendeur et apparat.

Serpetta

J’aimerais mieux rester ici avec Sandrina.

Nardo

Allons, Serpetta, hâte-toi

D’obéir à ton maître !

Serpetta

Va, et romps-toi le cou ! Par ici la sortie !

(Nardo sort, Serpetta demeure à l’écart.)
