Ariens Company has learned that the gusset weld on the cutter head spindle (p/n 03729851) used on the

986101 Lawn Edger in the above-listed serial number range may not have adequate penetration to sup-

port the blade guard mounting flange. These welds have the potential to fail prematurely, causing the

guard mounting flange to break.

Ariens Company has changed the welding process on this part to improve weld consistency and ensure

proper support for the flange.

Dealers should replace the cutter head spindle p/n 03729851 on all unsold inventory of Lawn Edger

986101 before putting the machine into service.

For units that are already sold, whenever the machines come in for any service or maintenance of any

kind, inspect the gusset weld at the location identified in the illustration on page 2. If the weld shows signs

of inadequate penetration, replace the cutter head spindle.

Units that are outside the serial number range listed here do not need to be inspected or have their cutter

head spindles replaced.

Dealers who replace a cutter head spindle p/n 03729851 should file a warranty claim using flat rate code

86103. Dealers will be reimbursed at their standard shop labor rate for 0.5 hours of labor. This parts

replacement is covered under warranty while the unit is within the standard warranty period.
